You can be a part of our mission to end domestic and sexual violence in Brunswick County

  • COURT ADVOCATE: Volunteers help victims during the court process and in filing domestic violence protective orders. Volunteers help Hope Harbor Home's court victim advocate, who has an office on the first floor of the Brunswick County Courthouse.
  • DIRECT SERVICES: Credentialed, trained and screened volunteers may help with crisis intervention, shelter intakes, liaison with other agencies and providing emotional support. A background in crisis response or social work is helpful for this type of volunteering. (Background check required.)
  • CRISIS VOLUNTEER: Credentialed, trained and screened volunteers may choose to be "on call" during nights and weekends to respond to victims of domestic violence. This may involve going to the hospital or police department to meet with victims. A background in nursing or law enforcement is helpful for this type of volunteering. Former victims of domestic violence also are very effective at this work. (Background check required.)
  • CHILDREN'S ADVOCATES work with the children's program coordinator to address the needs of children who have witnessed domestic violence in their homes. Children are helped to deal with their feelings of fear, guilt, anger, distrust and low self-esteem. (Background check required.)
  • TRANSPORTATION: Volunteers are needed to transport women to court and medical appointments. (Training program, clean driving record and background check required.)
  • OFFICE VOLUNTEERS: May help with answering phones, greeting visitors and other general clerical assistance.
